Microsoft Release DirectX 7.0

Microsoft today announced the release of the latest version of their DirectX application programming interface (API). This new version delivers further enhanced 3D graphics and sound and provides a significant performance boost for games.

DirectX is a set of advanced multimedia system services built into the Microsoft Windows operating system, providing software developers with a common set of instructions. This enables them to access a wide range of hardware devices without having to write specific code. In other words, it makes it easier for them to make games that are compatible with different hardware configurations.

"DirectX 7.0 gives our development teams access to the cutting-edge features we need to create a richer, more immersive gaming experience," said Mike O'Brien, lead programmer on Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft III.
