Wot, no vibration? One of Dreamcast's peripherals is a Visual Memory-sized Vibration Unit. The joypad has two slots so you can either plug in a couple of VMs or a VM and a Vibration Unit. Those used to the delights of Sony's Dual Shock and N64's Rumble Pak will almost certainly splash out the requisite £20. Blimey (mental note): keyboard, VM, Vibration Unit, extra controller - that's another £80 on top of the basic £200. Sheesh, and then there's the damned games...
The RRP of Dreamcast software is £39.99, although some mail order retailers are advertising them at £33.99. However, House of the Dead 2 and Sega Bass Fishing will cost a bit more because they come packaged with a light gun and a fishing reel controller respectively.
In Japan, Sega sold 150,000 Dreamcasts on the first day when it launched last November. Dreamcast went on sale in the United States last month and almost 600,000 consoles have departed the shelves, making it the most successful console launch ever. It took N64 two months to reach the 500,000 mark and PlayStation five months. Sega America sold 514,000 Dreamcasts in two weeks!
Sega Japan have launched four new, different coloured, translucent controllers. They come in blue, green, pink and black.
Dreamcast is better than the disastrous Mega CD and the erratic (moments of genius, often shambolic) Saturn.
