Jimmy White 2: Cueball
Dreamcast Release: October 29 From: Virgin

Snooker's one of the few games with more than one ball. So we guess you could say it's got more balls than most. Heh, heh... oh sod it.
Chris Lewis

You mean I get to play as Jimmy White?
Well, er, no. We reckon you'll be able to take the big man on once you've beaten the rest of the players in the game, but otherwise the only involvement Jimmy has is his grinning face at the beginning.

Fair enough. So it's snooker, right?
Yes, but there's more. Pool, for a start. The game is divided up into two areas: a dingy American bar (minus drunken cowboys) and the delightfully swanky snooker room. You could, we suppose, play snooker or pool, or you could play some of the other games on offer. The main man behind this game is Archer McLean, and his famous attention to detail is still there. You can take a few shots at the dartboard, try your luck on a fruit machine, play retro game Dropzone (written by Mr McLean quite a while ago now) and most probably lots more stuff we haven't found yet.

Top notch. But we all know pool is the most fun.
Au contraire. Both the pool and snooker are tremendously enjoyable, even when you're having your arse kicked. The learning curve doesn't allow you to jump straight to sinking balls, but neither does it leave you frustrated. Knocking balls about the green (or blue) tables has never been so much fun. We won't go so far as to say it's more fun than the real thing, but it's the closest you're going to get without splashing out on a snooker table.

What if I have no friends to play with?
Granted, it's a great laugh playing against your mates after a night in the pub, or practically any other time of the day, but that doesn't mean you need your friends round the whole time. The computer AI is more than adequate to play intelligently and realistically. You'll feel just as much pride beating One Eyed Jack as if you'd just slaughtered your chums.
