Cheetah cheater!

Dear Future Gamer,

Your usually accurate reviewing has taken me aback this week. Soul Fighter on Dreamcast. I quote, "If you want a good beat-em-up on Dreamcast, get Soul Calibur, and if you want a good adventure/beat-em-up, get yourself a second-hand MegaDrive with a copy of Golden Axe." Bollocks. Have you actually played Golden Axe on the Dreamcast? Have you? It's s***. It wasn't even THAT good at the time. But look at it now. I still have my MegaDrive and my SNES and I try, sometimes, when inebriated usually, to relive the glory days of SNES games 'till four in the morning and getting up early to carry on. But IT DOESN'T WORK. The only SNES game I even touch is SF2 and that gets dull after a while. MegaDrive Streets of Rage is the best of a bad bunch, but still crap.

But GOLDEN AXE? I do have a copy and I put it on to test out the opinions of your Mark Eveleigh person. It's awful. Blocky sprites, characters that glide along the place and woeful collision detection. I lasted five minutes before I ate my own spleen, put the MD away and had a go on Sega Rally 2 instead. I admit I have only played Soul Fighter for 5 minutes in HMV, but Golden Axe doesn't hold a candle to it.

I'm not saying Soul Fighter is any good, just be a bit more realistic about what you say. It's enough for games developers that people buy games purely on your words of wisdom, but when you start comparing state of the art stuff of 1999 to early 90's pap I can hear the boys and girls of Mindscape weeping from here.

Golden Axe? Have a go on it, I'll lend you a copy if you haven't got one. You'll be singing the praises of Chester Cheetah next.

Tom Fardon

FG: I like Chester Cheetah.
