Ubi Soft to Enter Online Game Arena

Gameloft.com promises free gaming, and the first new competitor to Hasbro's upcoming Games.com

Ubi Soft and Guillemot Corporation have announced plans to work together to create a free online gaming site, one day after Hasbro Interactive announced their own plans for a gaming site entitled Games.com. Gameloft.com will be Ubi Soft and Guillemot's Internet creation, a website offering over 300 titles, and backed by Ubi Soft's brands. The company promises to deliver, "All of Ubi Soft's games, Direct Play-compatible games and Quake-like games," over its service without charge to the visitor.

Though details regarding the actual games are still fuzzy, Director Gerard Guillemot plans to hire 150 people and invest around $10 (Ł6,203,089.50) million in funding towards the sites in the first year to ensure its success. The only problem? The incredibly strong branding of Hasbro Interactive and its various namebrands in the US, especially when used for a similar gaming website set to release in the same timeframe as Gameloft.com. Hasbro's online gaming site is set to launch in the middle of next year, while Gameloft.com is set to launch in April.
