New Official Details on Marvel vs Capcom 2

Capcom announces planned characters, VMU support, and three-on-three fighting. Rock on!

From our affiliate Magic Box we've got hold of the first official details on Capcom's sequel to Marvel vs Capcom.

The game, titled Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, will run on the Dreamcast-friendly Naomi arcade hardware, and will see arcade release in Spring of 2000.

The currently confirmed list of characters includes the likes of Venom, Captain America, Wolverine, Ryu, Zangief, and Strider, with Ruby Heart and Hayat (the mad bloke from Star Gladiator 2), making their first appearance in the Versus series.

So is there anything new to the game this time around? Well, apparently, the game will no longer feature a two-on-two battle system, for one thing. Instead, each player will select three characters that can be swapped between during battle. Additionally, you'll be able to perform hyper combos with all three. Three characters? More complex combos? The confusing just got more confusing, but hardcore arcade-goers should love the idea.

Also planned for the game is a VMU slot that will allow you to exchange data with the soon-to-follow Dreamcast version. Anyone who says that Capcom is supporting Sega in words only ought to read that sentence three times out loud! Beyond this compatibility, we expect the Dreamcast version to mirror the arcade version, despite the two additional characters loaded into memory.

Marvellous. We'll give you more as we get it.
