With regards to Matt's letter in FG58, there is a leaflet thing in the House Of The Dead 2 box that tells you that the gun won't work on 100Hz, widescreen or flatscreen TVs. This is a bit of a bitch, because there is no warning on the box, so you only find out when you buy the game. I had real trouble getting mine to work on my five-or-so-year-old TV, and found that if you whack up the brightness, it fixes the problem of the gun not pointing at the bottom half of the screen. I hope this sorts out any problems people have had.
