| Under the covers with the trade press |
Trade magazine MCV is absent this week, so we've only had rival paper CTW to inform us of the moves and shakes that have been happening in the industry over the Christmas period. Their front page is dominated by the story that most of the retail sector were happy with the Xmas selling period as all sales records were broken. Leading the field were PlayStation hardware and software sales, followed by PC, N64, Game Boy and Dreamcast, in that order.
Other news worthy of CTW's front page included former Sega of America's boss Bernie Stolar becoming a senior management figure at Mattel Interactive. Eidos are reported to be bolstering their interest in the sports sector of the games industry with the creation of a new sports division. Codemasters are also apparently interested in sports as CTW report that they've tied up convicted rapist Mike Tyson to endorse their forthcoming boxing game (based on their Prince Naseem engine) in the US.
