Dear Future Gamer
Sony say they have a great relationship with the magazines that have covered and promoted their format, so why jeopardise that relationship? The shelves are heaving under the weight of PSX mags out there, and if these titles aren't allowed to use the word "PlayStation" then they'll all have to find new titles, causing great confusion for the people who have been purchasing the mags for so long.
What are the alternatives?
You Know That Grey Coloured Machine With The Little Symbols Monthly?
Not Dreamcast, N64, PC or Game Boy Power?
Sony have the right to protect their logo, but I don't think they should get involved unless the word "PlayStation" is printed using Sony's (already copyrighted) typeface. If this goes ahead then Sony will gain a reputation for fascistic behaviour that would make Microsoft look like a Glastonbury audience, harming their machine and the Sony brand.
If Sony want to lose their current "cool mate" image and exchange it for a "Big Brother" tag then they need to have their heads examined.

It certainly seems bizarre to me, and I agree; they could be juggling with dynamite regarding their brand loyalty. The debate doesn't stop here...
