Forgive and Forget?

Dear Future Gamer

In regard to your comments in response to Richard Stratton's letter (FG63) about the use of the words "convicted rapist" when referring to Mike Tyson. I would beg to differ with your justification and believe that you're jumping on the bandwagon. Codemasters using Mike Tyson for their marketing strategy has nothing to do with his rape conviction as they're using a high profile boxer for a boxing game.

Had you made reference to him as a disgraced boxer for his ear-biting it would have been fair, although many people, myself included, would object. However, it would be a justified dig at Codemasters as EA didn't use him in Knockout Kings in 1999 because he didn't have a licence. They also boycotted him in 2000 due to the ear biting incident. Mike Tyson has served his time in prison for the despicable crime he supposedly committed, although we only need to look as far as the O.J. Simpson trial for the last time the American justice system screwed up. It's ignorant people such as yourselves who jump on the bandwagon and don't give people like Mike the opportunity to continue with their lives.

You could argue that Desiree Washington's suffering won't end if he did rape her, but you can't deprive a man of the right to make a living and nowadays endorsements are a part of any athlete's life.

FG: I'm not jumping on any bandwagon. I agree with you when you say Mike's served his time and should be allowed to get on with the rest of his life, but I don't agree with Codemasters' decision to use him as a tool to promote their boxing game in America. There are many more respectable boxers in America they could have chosen.
