Mini-Review
|
| Wild Wild West: Steel Assassin |
| PC |
From: Ubi Soft |
This is a lovely-looking game based on the film, but like so many film tie-ins, it's not much cop to play. The puzzles are terribly simple, giving the game very little longevity, and the fighting sections are terribly dull. You get to play both of the film's main characters and the basic premise for the adventure is that you're trying to thwart a dastardly attempt on President Grant's life. It's such a shame the designers erred on the side of simplicity because the interface is good, the graphics excellent and it could have worked as a really interesting adventure game instead of a short-lived, tedious attempt to cash in on the movie.

| Battlezone II |
| PC |
From: Activision |
Sequels often disappoint as the designers manage to throw out all the good stuff and introduce stuff that doesn't work any more. Battlezone II's not like that. All the good stuff has been left in and expanded on, making this a terrific mix of RTS and futuristic tank battle. It looks great, it sounds great and it's dead easy and absorbing to play. Our only criticism would be that, if anything, it's just more of the same, but then we're nit-picking because if you liked the first one then you'll love this. If you didn't play the first one we'd have no hesitation in recommending this because it's a cracking game.
