Mini-Review
|
| Bubble Bobble |
| Game Boy Color |
From: Taito |
Bubble Bobble in the arcades was a classic. So good, in fact, that it has been converted for everything from the Spectrum to the PlayStation, and spawned a great sequel (Rainbow Islands) and a series of puzzle games (Bust-a-Move). This Game Boy Color version has lost that magic spark though, and it's barely recognisable. The screen scrolls to follow the action, and with only a quarter of the playing area visible at any time, it's impossible to tell what's going on elsewhere. The bubbles don't burst when you expect them to, the colourful backgrounds make the levels look a mess and there's no two-player mode. Best avoided.

| Vegas Games |
| Game Boy Color |
From: 3DO |
It's hard to figure out what purpose gambling sims serve. Maybe they're good for keeping the mind toned during the ad breaks on Channel 4's Late Night Poker, or for helping young children with their maths homework. There's no denying their popularity though, and this comprehensive casino sim is probably the best one on the Game Boy Color yet, including nine of the top Vegas attractions, including keno, poker and the incomprehensible craps. You also get a selection of slot machines to fill with your virtual dollars, and a cashpoint to store your winnings. Pointless, for sure, but nicely presented and strangely absorbing.
