PlayStation2 Festival

How do you think it was received?

The PlayStation2 was unveiled to an expectant press corps and public on Friday February 18 at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo. 500 consoles were rigged up to show some 28 titles prior to the system's Japanese launch on March 4.

Gran Turismo 2000, Ridge Racer 5 and Tekken Tag Tournament stole the show, as expected, although there were a few surprises. Seven new titles were announced at the show, including Armored Core 2, Dead or Alive 2 and Dark Cloud (details to follow). Then there was the DVD demonstration where The Matrix was shown on some seriously huge screens.

The consensus from the floor was that a cutting edge games console, capable of playing DVDs, simply cannot fail, especially at only 39,800 yen (around £225). We'll give you the full lowdown when we get our very own PlayStation2 in a couple of weeks, eh Sony?
