Paradigm fighter wings its way onto N64
Paradigm Entertainment are currently developing the N64’s first true flight simulator. Harrier 2001 lets you fly the Harrier AV-8B jet in a quest to stamp out the evil Brotherhood, who have seized control of a peaceful island nation.
Boasting as many as 50 missions, with dual modes emphasising action or strategy, Harrier 2001 sets new standards of realism for the console flight sim genre. Each mission involves careful planning, as you’ll need to know which weapons to use for a specific task. Choose from 17 types of bomb, five air-to-air missiles, nine air-to-ground missiles, three gauges of guns and three types of rocket launcher, as well as a variety of self-defence systems.
Thankfully, Paradigm haven’t ignored the fact that gamers love multiplayer action, so expect to see some four-player head-to-head dogfights.
Graphically, Harrier 2001 is shaping up to be a bit of a stunner, which is not surprising considering Paradigm’s back catalogue – Pilotwings 64, F1 World Grand Prix and Beetle Adventure Racing are all beautiful.
If all goes to plan, Harrier 2001 should hit the shelves around June.
