| Duke Nukem for PlayStation 2? |
Rockstar and Gathering of Developers stay tight-lipped about platform for new Duke game...
Take 2’s games publishing arm, Rockstar, have secured the rights to co-publish a new Duke Nukem game with Gathering of Developers, the Dallas-based union of six development companies. Significantly, Rockstar are being rather coy about what system the game is being developed for – they would only say it’s for a “soon to be identified next-generation videogame console platform”. Which could be Dreamcast, or more enticingly, PlayStation 2. The new Nukem game will focus on a third-person-viewed Duke – previous versions have all been played in the first-person perspective.
Duke Nukem was originally created in 1991 by 3D Realms and their head Scott Miller commented: “We’re thrilled to see Duke Nukem blazing his way into future generations of console hardware. We are confident that the Gathering and Rockstar share the passion and dedication to the continued success of the Duke Nukem franchise that we at 3D Realms do”.
Gathering of Developers chief executive was equally delighted: “Adding the production of a Duke Nukem game to the list of credits of Gathering of Developers is a tremendous coup. The Gathering was formed in order to allow development companies, such as 3D Realms, the freedom to control franchises such as Duke Nukem".
Rockstar also have the publishing rights to DMA Design’s Grand Theft Auto 2, and they’re also reportedly releasing Grand Theft Auto: London 1969, an add-on for the original GTA.
