Videogames no longer exclusive to adolescent boys
Videogame sales are set to go through the roof this year, with a wealth of titles aimed at mature gamers. However, Doug Lowenstein, president of the Interactive Digital Software Association, believes that rampant piracy and cut-throat competition will certainly take their toll.
“This is the fastest growing entertainment industry in the world,” said Lowenstein. “People used to look at this as a niche market for adolescent boys, but the majority of those who play PC and videogames are adults”.
Adult sales were no doubt helped along by the ‘fashionable’ marketing of Sony’s PlayStation, as well as the various hunting and fishing games available for the PC. Wizard Works’ Deer Hunter surprised the industry last year by rocketing to the top of the best-sellers list.
Wizard Works expect even greater success with their latest project, Bird Watcher, a bird-watching game for the PC! According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, no less than 60 million US citizens are wildlife watchers.
The first bird-watching game that Future Gamer can remember was the rather poor Voyeur on the PC.
