Ubi Soft gear up to let loose some kick-ass angels
Coming at the end of the month is Ubi Soft's novel spin on the first-person shooter: Requiem: Avenging Angel based on Milton's classic story of good and evil, Paradise Lost.
The player assumes the role of one of God's angels, called Malachi, in a fight to save humanity from the clutches of the demons of Hell. Armed with a bizarre array of special angelic powers, like Walk on Water and Locust Swarm, the player must follow the biblical storyline that sees them interacting with all manner of hostile and non-hostile characters.
The game's developers, Cyclone Studios, are very proud of the 3D engine they've spent the last three years building which includes a groovy skeletal system for the game's characters. This utilises hybrid models with both rigid and soft body parts to allow for seamless morphing joints and robotic, non-morphing parts.
Characters in the game use their hands to make gestures (nice ones we hope), take damage at every angle and express emotion in some 25 uniquely natural animations (it says here). Though there's some death and destruction to meter out, Cyclone are at pains to point out that there's plenty of depth too as the player has to search for clues, interact intelligently with the game's characters and think before letting loose with the destructive miracles.
Expect a preview of Requiem: Avenging Angels in an upcoming issue of Future Gamer.
