Dear Future Gamer,
In response to Ronan Delaney's contribution ("Nash for questions", FG24), I would just like to say to him: "You big baby".
Mr. Nash had a poke at one of Ronan's favourite things, which, of course, makes your magazine a bad thing. He now may have to unsubscribe, because he has been offended. God forbid that, while making our way in the world, we are ever exposed to any opinions that conflict with our own.
I have had both a PC and a PS for several years. I have hardly upgraded and have remained steadfastly attached to my PS, despite the fact that the 3D didn't look too solid, and the odd polygon would disappear from time to time. It was a welcome change from the glut of strategy games that infested the PC market of that time. For the past few years, my PC has just been an unpleasant, out-of-date, error-prone, yellowing box sitting in the corner.
A few months ago, I finally tried the Internet. I now never want to be without my PC, despite the fact that it crashes from time to time. I can't afford to upgrade it, but it's all I need to access the Web. A Pentium III will never make a crappy 'waving flag' Java animation load faster. My PS lies near the TV, neglected. It seems I have played all the games I want to play on it.
I will, nonetheless, probably be buying another console in the next year. Consoles offer a good, cheap alternative for gamers who can't afford to upgrade their PCs to the latest specs.
From now on, I will always compromise between the two. Neither is 'better' than the other, they both excel in different areas.
Ronan Delaney, if you can't respect Mr. Nash's right to hold an opinion differing from yours and his right to express it, and if you can't broaden your horizons enough to consider anyone else's point of view, then at least respect him for his sense of humour and writing skills.
Future Gamer has allowed both you and Mr. Nash to express yourselves, you should appreciate that. Despite the fact that I don't always agree with what I read, I for one would like to thank the staff of Future Gamer for the time and effort they put in.
David Hayward
FG:
Mr Nash did seem to upset a few people, bless 'im. We at Future Gamer agree with David here, everyone's allowed an opinion and as long as it's well reasoned we'll support their right to express it.
