Superficially disappointing, it's only with extended play that Wave Race 64's subtlety and depth become apparent. At the time of its release, there were a number of water-based racing games in development. Looking at these would-be rivals with the benefit of hindsight - like Rapid Racer on the PlayStation - is the only way to get a proper perspective on how good WR64 truly is.

Although its interpretation of racing game mainstays won't suit everyone, Wave Race 64 is not your average track-based offering. Its use of the N64's analogue controller is genuinely outstanding, too. From the slightest to the sharpest turn, you genuinely appreciate the thought and concentration each race demands. So, if you fancy something a bit different...
