Argh! It's a sim! Run for the hills! (Actually F1 World Grand Prix is great)

FG checks out Nintendo's cut-price classics...
James Price

The most recent of the five games on offer, F1 World Grand Prix is a well-regarded racer. It is, however, a demanding game to play. For the casual joypad-juggler, it's possible that its sim-like leanings make it a tad too tricky. For such people, Mario Kart is possibly the better choice.

After a number of 'nearly' racing games - and a whole load of crap - F1WGP was the first decent 'serious' driving title to arrive on the N64. To this day, it still lacks a respectable peer group. In that sense, it's a must-buy for those who find Mario Kart too frivolous and colourful. And, of course, for those who love MK64, but just like the idea of playing a 'proper' racing game that stands comparison with its PlayStation and PC counterparts.

FG verdict
Serious, sim-like racing on the N64. If that's your bag, dance round to a games store. 92%
