Just A Pretty Face?

Dear Future Gamer,

I have to agree with Chris Holloway and Boggis (FG 31), you seem to be getting a bit lazy. It seems when I look at my current issue of Future Gamer I'm just looking at a pretty face for IGN. I don't mind you getting your information from them but the least you could do is re-write it instead of just doing five minutes of work to fill out an empty page.

You wouldn't go and buy a Rolls Royce only to find that the engine had been made by BMW, you buy the Rolls because you want a Rolls, not because you want a BMW that looks like one. Oh, and you said there are lots of people who like it this way but isn't it strange how there were two letters from people against it but none supporting you?

Joe

FG: Okay, here's the situation. Future Gamer has an agreement with IGN to use their news. We're sent a vast document every day, and we use very few of their pieces simply because a lot of it isn't relevant, and yes, some of the 'kick ass' language is a bit grating for us stoical Little Englanders (and the rest). But it's meant to be a bonus. The IGN stuff doesn't replace our news, it adds to it. Like it or not, newsfeeds are a big part of daily publishing, be it in print or electronic media. We have had supportive letters regarding the newsfeed, and while we appreciate them enormously, we prefer to address complaints. The newsfeed is a recent thing for Future Gamer and we're still fine-tuning what we do and don't use. We are aware of the 'press release' nature of some news items and we're working hard to ensure our news doesn't come across like that. Your comments are appreciated.
