Beer
Running a successful bar isn't merely a matter of putting on some ridiculously strong ales with silly names like Bowel Wrencher and standing back watching the punters falling over one by one, because that's exactly what they'll do - fall over. If even your hardest regulars can only manage one pint of your finest ale before being taken away in an ambulance, they're not going to make you a fortune, are they? No. Do the sensible thing: visit your wholesaler, Blogg's Booze, and get in a selection of quality wines and spirits (or cheap wines and spirits, if you want or have to). And also some stupidly strong ales and lagers which you can water down.
Bar Prices
In the early days, when you're trying to attract new customers, there's nothing like free or cheap beer to convince Joe Public that it might be nice to check out the new pub down the road, so throw a party to get things off the ground and have regular promotion nights. You can always experiment with your bar prices too, remember, and see what effect they have on business. You might charge two quid for a double, for instance, if you're a friendly landlord; three, though, if you're a git.
Staff
In Theme Pub you'll be able to go and see Billy's Bar Staff Agency. On their books will be whole spectrum of people you can hire, with a dossier on each, from Sam the cocktail expert to Betty with the nice arse. Get the right people for the right bar and you'll be surprised at how your business benefits. Get the wrong bunch and, well... you can always fire the bastards.
Food
It's a shame to ruin a good pub with food, really, but there's money to be made in catering so, hey, do some lunches at least. You never know, choose the right menu from the impressively long 'Menu menu' and you might do a roaring trade between twelve and two. By the way, the old 'extra salt' trick to make the punters drink more never works in real life - but it does in this game.
