Papers and periodicals perused...

My God she's ugly. Who? The woman/creature/thing who's set to star in Sony's new PlayStation TV advertising campaign. Not only is she pictured on the cover of the latest Computer Trade Weekly, there's also an enlarged version stretching over pages two and three. Imagine Bjork after plastic surgery has stretched her skin (and one or two other 'alterations') and you're about there. Apparently the ad kicks off this Friday. Shudder.

CTW has also produced the results of a quick poll it ran regarding the cost of PlayStation games. 55 per cent of respondents (from its email digest service) said that Sony should price games between £29.99 and £39.99, while 83 pre cent reckoned that Sony should drop the price of software anyway. Bear in mind that the majority of pollsters work in the industry. Still, two per cent reckoned that games should cost £9.99, which isn't going to happen in the foreseeable future.

Anything else? CTW editor Ronnie Dungan has been busy equating software companies to football teams. Take 2, he reckons, are West Ham, while Electronic Arts are Man Utd. Jiminy! Who on earth are Sheffield Wednesday, then? Answers on a postcard...

Rival trade paper MCV comes wrapped in an advertisment for PC game Drakan. A young women wearing leather gear and carrying a spear sits on a rock by a stream. Anyway, back to the Drakan ad... Urk! That scary Sony woman's pictured on the back. She's going to give us all nightmares.

MCV's lead news story regards the recent hardware price cuts. Apparently, after Nintendo dropped the price of the N64, sales of the console actually DROPPED. The PlayStation recorded a 39 per cent increase during the same weekend period. C'mon people, don't you know that there's some damn fine games on the N64?

Naughty, naughty. Currys put Tiberian Sun on the shelves on August 25, two days before the official release date. Up in arms, everyone is. Up in arms.
