| Go Professional 2 |
| PC |
From: Oxford Softworks |
Board games on computers are quite hard to review. After all, did you really spend all that money on a state-of-the-art system just to move a couple of counters round a pixellated play area? Go Professional 2, as you'd expect, doesn't challenge this stereotype - it's clear, simple and not particularly stunning to look at. It's based on the ancient Japanese game Go, a tactical affair that can take years to master. This version will certainly get you thinking, and if you're tempted by board games, you stand a good chance of becoming addicted. There's a useful hint option, difficulty levels to suit beginners and masters alike and some truly awful music. So, it's a board game on your PC; nothing more and nothing less. Dedicated puzzle fans might feel the £40 price is justified but I somehow doubt most gamers will be tempted.

| Gruntz |
| PC |
From: Microids/Codemasters |
Following in the footsteps of cutesy puzzle games like Lemmings comes Gruntz. You have to guide your little beasties through a range of levels, viewed from the top down. The game is simple to get into, with an interface like that found in strategy games, allowing you to select multiple units, view energy bars and toolz. You have to avoid traps and enemy Gruntz and make use of the wide variety of toolz available (rockz, spadez, beach ballz, go-kartz, etc). It's your standard puzzle fare and so it can get a bit irritating at times, but it's got a multiplayer option which extends the gameplay and it has a great sense of humour that makes this an endearing effort.
