Zombies Take Over THQ Shock

Sam Raimi's Evil Dead creations set to make their game debuts

THQ announced today that they are to develop a new, multi-platform game based on the classic Evil Dead horror film trilogy.

The new game, to be called Evil Dead: Ashes 2 Ashes, will be created with the support of Evil Dead creators Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert, as well as its rubber-faced, chainsaw-toting star, Bruce Campbell.

Ashes 2 Ashes will be a single-player, real-time 3D adventure game with full, layered 2D backgrounds. Set eight years after the last instalment of the trilogy, players will assume the role of Ash and return to the infamous cabin in the woods. Once there, they'll meet all manner of nasties who have slipped into our world via the book in the story, The Necronomicon.

"An interactive adventure based on the series is long overdue," reckons the wide-eyed Campbell.

Many gamers will certainly agree, but with the deal which links up THQ with Raimi's Renaissance Pictures lasting initially for five years, it looks like there's going to be more than enough gore-filled fun in store for us all.
