De-buggery

Dear Future Gamer

Why are all the best games ridden with glitches? Take Pokémon, for example. All my game data was erased when I traded with someone who had the 'missing no' glitch but didn't tell me. Why do designers ruin games by allowing themselves to be forced into releasing them early by people who can't wait five seconds? Look at GT2 for another example: brilliant idea but ruined by thousands of glitches (98.2 per cent anyone?). After all my cars got erased I'm left with a feeling of 'why Sony, why?'. Just for once, can someone be arsed enough to try to release a game free of glitches?

FG: It's certainly far less excusable with console software than it is with PC software as you're only dealing with a limited end-user set-up, without thousands of different graphics cards and joysticks to cater for. However, de-bugging a game is still a long process, which doesn't always please the marketing men who often have more clout when it comes to setting a game's release date than programmers would like.
