What you really want to know
Baffled by Z-buffers? Flummoxed by floating points? You probably just want to know how good the PlayStation 2 is going to be. Here’s a list of the features we all wanted to know about, without all the squiggly bits (figures in brackets are for the original PlayStation):
* 300MHz main clock speed (33.86MHz)
* 32Mb RAM (2Mb plus 1Mb video RAM)
* 3.2Gb per second Memory Bus Bandwidth (132Mb per second)
* 20 million fully textured polygons per second (360,000)
* 5.7Gb DVD-ROM (650Mb CD-ROM)
In addition, it has been confirmed that PlayStation 2 will be backwardly compatible, so you’ll be able to play all your old favourites and even use the lovely Dual Shock controller.
