The creator of The 7th Guest joins id Software as a designer and manager.
The creator of the adventure game The 7th Guest has joined id Software as a lead designer. Graeme Devine, co-founder and former CEO of Trilobyte Software, joins the Mesquite, Texas-based developer immediately.
“id Software is a leader in the industry,” said Graeme Devine, designer for id Software, in a statement. “They are the creators of a phenomenon that has reached around the globe. I’m excited to be a part of this talented team.”
While Devine, best known for adventures like The 11th Hour and The 7th Guest, may seem a strange choice for id Software (famous for action games like Doom and Quake), id notes that Devine has been designing and programming games for over a decade.
“id Software has a track record of not only creating top notch games but of hiring quality talent,” said CEO of id Software, Todd Hollenshead. “Graeme's credentials are a remarkable showcase of his skills as designer, programmer and manager.”
Apart from doing design work, Devine’s role will also take on some management duties, a role for which he seems suited. When Trilobyte was at its largest, he supervised fifty-five employees across a number of projects.
In other id Software news, a compatibility test for Quake III: Arena was leaked onto the Internet recently. This item is not a beta of the upcoming demo for the game, but rather was sent by id Software to hardware manufacturers to test the game’s compatibility with their chips.
A full demo of Quake III: Arena is expected later this month.
