Konami are porting their latest arcade games to the PlayStation. Bishi Bashi Special 2 will be a combination of Hyper Bishi Bashi Champs and Gachagachamp and will feature a total of 48 multiplayer mini-games from the two arcade machines. The game will support up to eight players simultaneously and is set for a September release in Japan.
Light-gun games seem to be getting even more popular in Japan these days, and the names are getting even more bizarre. Ohbakyuun, or 'Cancer Shooting', takes place in a haunted house infested with 'super deformed' enemies such as black cats and ghosts. It should appear in arcades throughout Japan this summer.
Barmy council members in Sweden have decided to give Mario his very own street. The thoroughfare in Kungsbacka is to be officially renamed Marios Gata (Mario Street) on June 19. Bergsala Company, who hold the Scandinavian distribution rights for Nintendo, convinced the town council that Mario was worthy of the honour. "Mario is an important part of Nintendo's success in Sweden and naming a street after him is a good way of showing our appreciation," said Bergsala's director, Owe Bergsten. Whatever next? We reckon they should change the name of the town to 'Donkey Kongsbacka'.
An American man has been sentenced to four years in prison without probation after a German court found him guilty of importing illegally copied Microsoft software. This is the first time that Germany has issued a prison sentence for a crime of this type. The sentencing follows the seizure by German customs officials of thousands of illegal copies of Microsoft software last August. "This sentence is a breakthrough in Germany and shows that counterfeiting software is really a serious crime," said Rudolf Gallist, general manager of Microsoft GmbH.
There is a section in a popular Japanese TV show where a man is locked naked in a room with just a telephone, postcards, stamps and a pen. In order to survive he has to win food, clothes, etc. by entering various competitions (featured in magazines which are brought to him). The naked man has become a bit of a celebrity in Japan and has been nicknamed 'Nasu-bi' or 'eggplant boy' due to his ridiculously long face. Enter Hudson, who will be bringing the joys of Nasu-bi to the Dreamcast on June 24. As the facially abundant protagonist, you'll get to sit in a room entering virtual competitions as well as some real ones for real prizes.
