Israeli company make good on the modem to be used with the 64DD
Adding fuel to the hype surrounding the Japan-only 64DD, Israel's Surf Communications Solutions have announced the completion of its modem system to be used with the 64DD. Surf teamed with Nexus Telocation Systems to complete a software modem for Nintendo - now the company have confirmed that they will indeed be used in the disk drive add-on.
The 64DD with its promised modem capabilities has long been touted as the N64's gateway to the Internet for many Japanese users. Although no photos of Surf's Nintendo modem are available yet, it's most assuredly designed to only work with the 64DD and should take advantage of the unit's special requirements. Connected to the Internet, the 64DD will enable users to download additional levels to compatible games, read a variety of newspapers and racing reports online and create original works with pre-rendered works of art.
There are currently no plans to bring the 64DD to Europe or the US.
