GD-ROMs Cracked?

Dear Future Gamer

You said in your piracy feature in FG38,"The Dreamcast's GD-ROM format was supposed to make it difficult to copy games. A year later, pirated Dreamcast games are appearing for sale on Internet sites." I hate to tell you but GD-ROMs have still not been "backed up" yet, no matter what you've been led to believe. If this were the case, don't you think all of the Sega and Dreamcast usernet groups would have been flooded with people offering them for sale? The only site I've ever seen was some lame kid's site with a photo of a gold CD with Powerstone written on it.

FG: We've been led to believe that there are indeed pirate copies of Dreamcast games around. Admittedly, we haven't gone searching for them so can't put our hands on our hearts and say they're genuine, but we'd be surprised if they weren't. Can anyone out there give us a definitive answer to whether the Dreamcast's GD -ROM format has been cracked?
