Who She? actually. Barring Lara Croft, Roberta Williams must be the most successful woman in the history of computer games. She designed her first adventure game in the late '70s, a hand-written concept that became Mystery House. Luckily enough, her husband Ken was the founder of software developer On-Line Systems, and so he took her idea and turned it into the first true graphics/text adventure.
In 1980, On-Line Systems became Sierra On-Line and moved operations from LA to Oakhurst, California. Roberta got straight to work on her second game, The Wizard and the Princess, which went on to sell more than 60,000 copies - an incredible figure for the time. As with her previous effort, it set a new standard for home computer entertainment.
The following years brought even more success for Roberta and Ken, thanks to the highly popular King's Quest series. To date the series has sold more than three million copies, making Roberta Williams one of the best-selling designers in the industry. Now that's what we call a true fantasy woman.
