Nintendo Sound Off

First detais on Dolphin's sound capabilities

With official announcements regarding Dolphin's specific sound hardware still pending, we've uncovered new information that helps provide a better feel of what to expect of the console's audio environment. Nintendo of America recently posted a "Help Wanted" for an Audio Software Engineer. Applicants, according to the post, are to be experienced in all of the following:

  • C++ under embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of audio/video compression techniques ADPCM, MP3, MPEG2, general MIDI and MIDI sequences.
  • Knowledge of Dolby Surround, Dolby Digital, DLS, MPEG4, Direct Sound and DSP.

    All of the above features can be considered a shoe in for Nintendo's next-generation system, including Dolby Digital sound (which, of course, won't be mixed on the fly, but rather streamed off DVD in conjunction with Dolphin's dynamic audio options).

    Announcements regarding the sound hardware are expected soon.
