| Dreamcast Chat Gets Censored in Japan |
Step 1: censor their words. Step 2: take over their minds. Bwa-ha-ha!
An article from the Friday edition of Japanese newspaper Nikkei Industrial Daily reveals that Sega Enterprises and their network services subsidiary Isao Corp have developed a system for the Japanese market that will automatically eliminate obscenities and other text from Internet chat rooms. Services making use of the system will be available from Friday.
The system, which operates automatically in real-time, controls messages on the server side and currently has a database of 500 prohibited words, with the possibility of more words being added in the future. Messages containing the prohibited words are denied, and the originator of the message is sent notification that the message couldn't be posted.
As reported earlier, Sega of Japan and Isao have signed up 500,000 Dreamcast users in Japan to online services, making the childproof Internet tools an inevitability.
