| End For PlayStation Mags? |
Magazines banned from using the word PlayStation in mastheads
According to trade paper MCV, magazines will no longer be allowed to use the word 'PlayStation' in their titles. The only exceptions will be Future Publishing's Official UK PlayStation and Essential PlayStation, plus their spin-off titles.
This move comes as Sony get strict on the use of their logos and trademarks, and follows their recent legal action against unlicensed third-party peripherals.
All changes must be made by April 1, and many magazine editors must feel like the move is actually an April Fool.
Sony's UK Marketing Director Alan Welsman told MCV, "We need to set rules. We have crafted a great relationship with the magazine publishers and have enjoyed an excellent two-way relationship. We will attempt to make it as painless as possible."
What do you think? Are Sony justified in defending their intellectual rights or is this a case of copyright gone mad? Letters to the usual address please.
