LucasArts Join the Sega Bandwagon

While Pod Racer has been confirmed for some time, it's now official

Sega of America today announced that they have officially signed up LucasArts Entertainment for third-party development. LucasArts have already made plans for multiple Dreamcast titles, the first of which is a port of Star Wars: Episode I Racer. The game is being touted as having smooth, detailed, hi-res graphics and pre-rendered cut scenes meeting and even surpassing the visual quality of the PC version. Just as interesting, however, is that the game will give players the ability to post their high scores and times online via the Dreamcast Network, introducing a new level of competition.

"Sega are honoured to welcome LucasArts aboard as publishers. They have outstanding properties and talent and the company will bring some great content to Sega Dreamcast in the future," said Neal Robison, Group Director of Third-Party Licensing, Sega of America. "Sega have a unique advantage in console gaming with the Sega Dreamcast Network and we are 100 per cent committed to expanding and enhancing the gameplay experience for consumers via the Internet. We are pleased to see LucasArts making the same commitment with Star Wars: Episode I Racer."

"With Star Wars: Racer's graphic realism and speed, it is the ideal title with which to debut on Sega Dreamcast," said Mary Bihr, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for LucasArts. "There are more exciting titles to come from LucasArts and we look forward to supporting Sega's continued success in the videogame console market."

Look for Episode I Racer in the spring and keep checking back to find out what else LucasArts have in store.
