Final Fantasy Lightweights

Dear Future Gamer

In response to Hass needing a walkthrough to play Final Fantasy VIII (FG68), I'll keep this uncharacteristically short but sweet. You're:
1. Talking bollocks;
2. Totally crap at adventure games.

I've played every Final Fantasy game ever to be translated and I have never, ever used a walkthrough, nor found it necessary. Granted, after completing the game I've discovered obscure bits that I missed first time round from mags and so on, but I have never needed a walkthrough to finish a Final Fantasy game.

Think a bit more and observe; that's what the games are about. If anything, FFVII and VIII were far too easy. I shudder to think what you would have made of the end boss of Final Fantasy II, if you ever made it that far.

Michael Foster

FG: I think you're being a bit harsh, Michael. Judging the difficulty level of a game to appease novices and experts alike isn't an exact science and some developers do it better than others. The other point to remember is that people play games differently - some want to rush through to the end screen as fast as possible while others want to explore every aspect of the game, undertake every quest and get the most out of the code. Getting the balance right (as someone once sang) is the difference between a classic and a merely average game.
