Bandai are set to release Kyoshukin on the PlayStation this summer. The karate fighter is designed to be true to the art, with no unrealistic special moves and motion capture from real martial artists. 'Story' mode allows you to start as a beginner and you'll need to train and spar extensively before entering a tournament. In fact, it sounds quite similar to the Amiga classic Budokan - which is nice. Other modes of play include 'Versus Battle' and 'Training', as well as the now obligatory PocketStation mode which will allow you to train on the move and battle with friends.
Following the recent success of Nintendo's Pocket Monsters, Tecmo are making a similar foray into TV-land with Monster Farm. The cartoon series is based on the popular monster-breeding and battle title and is currently showing every weekday in Japan.
Sega AM3 are working on a new Naomi arcade title called Sega Rescue. The game is said to be similar to Crazy Taxi, only this time round you'll get to drive an ambulance and ferry people to the hospital. Future Gamer can't wait to press the siren. "Nee-naw, nee-naw." Also in development is the tentatively titled Dance Game, Sega's answer to Konami's immensely popular Dance Dance Revolution.
Nintendo have confirmed that a sequel to Castlevania 64 is in the works and will be previewed at next month's E3. No solid details have emerged as of yet, although it is believed that the E3 demo will be playable. Chances are it will utilise the same engine as its predecessor, although many hardcore fans are hoping that the series returns to its modest 2D side-scrolling roots.
Weird games anyone? This week it has to be Hudson's forthcoming Planet Dob. Scheduled for a June release, Planet Dob is a combination of music and adventure. As the unfortunately named 'Dob', you have to search various levels for the missing music seeds that were stolen by the evil 'Dr. K'. In order to finish each stage, you'll be required to play a number of mini-games - complete a mini-game and you'll be rewarded with one of the stolen seeds. Some of the mini-games are believed to play like Parappa the Rapper.
Rumour has it that Konami are planning to release a Game Boy Color version of Metal Gear Solid. Nothing more is known at this moment. The news doesn't really come as a big surprise - the Metal Gear Solid title alone is sure to shift a hell of a lot of units, even if the game ends up being a run-of-the-mill platformer. It is, however, unlikely that Konami would risk devaluing such a precious franchise. Here's hoping for something a little bit special, maybe using a rumble cartridge for those spooky Psycho Mantis moments.
