| Sony's Exclusive PSX2 Sales Plan |
PSX2 may be sold only at select Sony stores
According to a specialist weekly Japanese newsletter, Weekly NEXT, SCEI will try to sell PlayStation 2 only via their chain of electronics entertainment stores. In all, there are about 2,000 stores in Japan.
If true, this approach will generate great hype and attention to Sony's stores. Conversely, a wider of range of stores would be a more traditional - and efficient - way of distributing as many systems as possible. A non-exclusive retail deal would also keep the rest of the games sales outlets as Sony allies rather than enemies.
In any case, this is clearly an example of the tension-filled atmosphere building up to the announcement of Sony's next gen console.
