Sony Sign Up for Euro 2000

PlayStation 2 to sponsor next European Championships

Sony have announced that they're to be one of Euro 2000's major sponsors. The national championship, which is being co-hosted by Belgium and Holland, is second in importance only to the World Cup, and Sony will use the event to promote PlayStation 2, or whatever the next PlayStation is to be called.

Speaking to Future Gamer, President of UEFA Lennart Johansson said, "We welcome PlayStation to the family of Euro 2000 sponsors. Through our existing relationship with the UEFA Champion's League, we know that PlayStation is a brand which brings with it powerful pan-European youth appeal, technological excellence, and, of course, exhilarating entertainment. In PlayStation, UEFA have found a sponsor whose passion and commitment to the game mirrors their own."

A pal of the president wasn't available for comment.
