Force 21 - Out now in the shops
Issue 46 - September 23, 1999

A Site For Sore Eyes
Museum of Dirt

Yes, dirt. Soil, gravel, sand, whatever - you'll find it here, accurately logged, photographed and split into useful sections. Need to know what the dirt from Alcatraz or Disneyland looks like? Well, the Museum of Dirt is where you'll find out. There's even a fantastic search engine to help you find the exact dirt you want. You can search the archive by colour (decidedly blue to earthworm brown), by type (mulch to shrubbery), elevation, location and a number of other categories, to help you get right down to the (ahem) nitty gritty.

Of course, it's not all common dirt. There's also your celebrity soil, so you can compare John Belushi's gravesite to the Baywatch set or the Betty Ford Clinic. Amusingly, there's also a section containing all the letters rejecting requests for dirt, from such notables as Ronald Reagan, Leonard Nimoy, Prince Charles and the Disney Corporation.

This is a must for dirt collectors and connoisseurs everywhere, but for those of you who just want to see an off-the-wall site that's gorgeously presented, with hundreds of photographs of dirt, this is the finest site covering earth on Earth.
