Force 21 - out now in the shops

Force 21 - Out now in the shops
Issue 46 - September 23, 1999

Game Kid
He's game and he's the kiddie page 2 of 2

The game's controller system could do with a bit of improvement, though. The steering wheel seems cumbersome during free kicks and coming out of light speed while chipping out of a bunker is damn near impossible. But let's not grumble, for just the sheer size of the thing is immense. In fact, this reviewer completed both its levels in a matter of minutes, so there's no doubting that most gamers will still be happily shooting rabbits for months. In fact, after just seconds the tedium sets in and you'll be thinking of another, more satisfying way of passing the evening. Once bitten you're addicted. The multi-tap system works very cleverly, too - you'll be positively fighting over the controller when you get back from the pub.

There are a few glitches and bugs which have to be put up with, though. Every time you go to buy a burger, for instance, you immediately slip out of fifth gear, which makes an accurate punch miss by miles; and when you run up for your bowl with the power bar right up a lizard pops up from nowhere and zaps you with a carrot. I ask you!

But such things are part of the game. Its hero, with his fluffy tail, makes a charming football manager, and while its not quite as good as Bust A Move, you can at least turn the blood level down a touch. In all it represents excellent value for money and it won't be long before you'll be throwing it away in disgust.

Good points:

  • Huge
  • Stunning graphics
  • Fast, addictive gameplay

    Bad points:
  • Short Shelf-life
  • Poor, sub-16bit visuals
  • Dull in the extreme

    Verdict:
If you like your martial arts served with peas then you'll find this a superb game of tennis.
