Handspring Visor

More power for your pocket

Handspring Inc. popped over the pond to show us their new range of Visor handheld computers. While not exactly a serious gaming platform, the Visor offers a lot more flexibility than other handheld organisers. Heck, you can even get Tiger Woods Golf for it.

More exciting, however, is the Visor's expandability by means of its Springboard expansion slot. Various modules simply slot into the back, much like a Game Boy cartridge, including a digital camera, modem, pager and MP3 player.

"Visor represents the next step in the evolution of the handheld computer," said Handspring co-founder, Chairman and Chief Product Officer Jeff Hawkins. "Everywhere I turn people want to do more with their palm computers. They want to have more software, add a GPS, take digital pictures and, especially, add wireless communications. There was no easy way to do this with existing handhelds, so we created the Springboard expansion platform. With the Springboard expansion slot developers can create hundreds of easy to use, solidly integrated expansion options."

The standard Visor will retail in the US for $179 (around £115) and Handspring aim to keep the UK price in line with this.
