| Sony Net partners for PS2 |
More details surface of Next Generation PlayStation
Although Sony have yet to confirm solid details regarding Next Generation PlayStation's Internet capabilities, in an interview with Japan's Nikkei, SCE president Hisata-shacho has admitted that the Net will play a big part in the console's future.
SCE has signed up partners Sky Perfect TV Satellite Communications and Digital Networking Solutions and this suggests that PS2 will have far more than just the capability of linking to the Internet. Indeed, it's a distinct possibility that PlayStation 2 could be the 'set-top box' that people have been talking about since the days of the Amiga, but which has never materialised.
Nonetheless, Sony will undoubtedly concentrate on the machine's videogaming capabilities first and foremost, but such is the console's hardware spec, we may be seeing a significant step towards a machine that can do everything except make the tea.
