Dear Future Gamer,
Neil Clowrey (FG32) said: "We either get games with a splash of humour (the Gorons in Zelda) or games that try to compensate by being cute (Yoshi's adorable exercise routines in Yoshi's Story, for instance)". Hey, even though I am a lover of Monkey Island and games of similar ilk (Broken Sword, Day of the Tentacle etc.), I have to say that the point Neil made is sort of incorrect.
It all depends on your sense of humour. You may enjoy the way Turok falls to his death. Or you may find locking up Lara's butler in the store room funny. You may like the way the baddies in Quake 2 and GoldenEye act when they are dying. I liked the beginning of Turok 2 where that lizard shoots you down. Also, let me add that you buy games to be entertained. Notice the phrase 'be entertained'. It's not equal to 'laugh'. I hope I made my point clear...

We're certainly into rather different boundaries of 'humour' here. Neil Clowrey's point related to the fact that Monkey Island was 'witty' funny, and he was wondering why no-one has the ability/inclination to produce these types of games anymore. The power of sarcasm is mightier than the sword. Or something like that...
