The trade press compressed

Interplay's poor third quarter results - $17 million in losses year on year - dominated trade paper CTW's front page this week, with Interplay insisting they're through the worst and that a more focused approach on the console market is the key to improved performance. CTW also report that Sony have reassured retailers that there will be no PlayStation drought this Christmas, despite exactly that happening States-side. The paper also carries a story on ELSPA's (European Leisure Software Publisher's Association - the gang behind the recent 'if you pirate games you're probably into drug dealing and pornography' campaign) disappointment that the development community has had a less than enthusiastic response to their attempts to convince developers they should form a trade association.

CTW rivals MCV devote front page space this week to HMV's plans for their biggest ever marketing campaign for games this year, including dedicated TV commercials. Looks like we're finally acceptable, folks. MCV also give prominence to the story that Eidos are shaking off sell-off rumours and have officially become a £1 billion company. Not bad, eh? Bet that Lara Croft had nothing to do with it. MCV Editor and industry veteran Stuart Dinsey devotes his editorial column this week to e-commerce transactions for interactive entertainment products, saying, "E-commerce is the most exciting retail development for years and it should not be underestimated." That's a sentiment we at Future Gamer entirely agree with.
