Virgin knocks £10 off Ridge Racer Type 4
Virgin Megastores knocked £10 off Ridge Racer Type 4 last week and retailers are now fearing a summer price war, according to trade weekly MCV. The latest incarnation in Namco's racing series is one of the biggest titles this summer and blockbusters are rarely slashed so soon after release.
However, MCV reports that total sales across the UK were only 35,000 last week and it speculates that the price drop could have been due to stock problems at Virgin. Dixons and Electronics Boutique cut their prices accordingly but HMV and WH Smiths held the game at £39.99.
Virgin have also cut the price of Zelda and Rollcage and these reductions have angered rival retail chains who have accused Virgin of dirty tactics in their attempt to regain market share. Nonetheless, for many people, £30 is still darned steep for a videogame. The cheaper the better, say us.
