| 60Hz European Dreamcast |
Optional full speed mode a reality?
Sources have informed us that Sega are to include a 60Hz option on the PAL Dreamcast. If this turns out to be true, European gamers will finally be able to play console games as the developers intended.
Traditionally, European machines have only been able to run at 50Hz, due to the restrictions of the PAL TV standard. The result was always a slower version of the US/Japanese game with ugly black borders. However, many of us now own fancy TVs capable of a higher refresh rate.
But are Sega really going to offer a 60Hz mode to European gamers? Let's hope so. After all, it makes sense for them to do it - it's one of the main reasons hardcore gamers buy imported machines, and if Sega do it, surely Sony and Nintendo will follow suit.
