Taiwan Loses Half its Memory

Natural disaster affects PlayStation retail

An earthquake that occurred recently in Taiwan has prompted worries about a possible PlayStation memory card crisis.

The huge shake put half the factories that manufacture IC chips for memory cards out of action, and retailers may find memory card stocks running low as a result.

Mathew Lamprell, Deputy Managing Director of Joy Tech, told industry magazine MCV, "We've worked with our retail partners to ensure that stocks will be fulfilled. However, any last minute buyers will find it difficult to fulfil their needs."

Maxplay National Accounts Manager James Farr said, "There'll be shortages."
