First Info on Sega GT's Modes

A racing game without modes is questionable at best. Sega GT has all the requisite modes and more!

The latest issue of Japanese Dreamcast Magazine and Address Snowy have brought us new information on the modes we can expect to find in Sega GT, Sega's upcoming real driving simulator.

We've already commented on the presence of a story mode, but it turns out that this is actually referred to as the Championship mode. You'll be able to tune up your car and race, as well as earn rewards. There is, of course, a Quick Race mode for those not wanting to take part in the Championship mode; you'll be able to race freely through the tracks, without worrying about all the details of tuning your car. There's also a Replay mode for viewing (guess what!) replays. Finally, the game features a Two-Player split-screen mode. Wins in Two-Player mode are based on separation, possibly similar in style to Tokyo Xtreme Racer.

In addition to these standard modes, players can also expect a Tuning Mode and a Communication Mode. The Tuning mode will allow you to implement various detailed settings, although we don't have more specific information on the matter. The Communication mode, as we mentioned in our earlier story on Sega GT, will allow you to log on to a special web page and do some form of data transfer. It seems that you'll specifically be able to download the ghost data of other players, so you'll be able to race against players from across the world, although not in real-time. This sounds similar to the system featured in the import version of TNN Hardcore Heat.

Be sure and check back in the coming days as further details on this potential Gran Turismo-killer emerge.
